Who are we?

We are a large, friendly and inclusive triathlon club based in the heart of Killarney, Co. Kerry. Our goal is simple: to help people discover triathlon in a relaxed, supportive and enjoyable way, regardless of age, fitness level or sporting background. We were first affiliated with Triathlon Ireland in 2015 and have grown over the past number of years with over 90 members in 2026.

If you have ever thought that triathlon looks interesting but you are not fit enough, or that you would not know where to start, you are not alone. Many of our members felt exactly the same before joining the club. You do not need to be fast, competitive or experienced to become part of our club. All that is required is a willingness to ‘give it a go’.

We welcome complete beginners and place a strong emphasis on learning the basics. Our training sessions are beginner friendly, well structured and paced so that everyone feels comfortable. Coaches and experienced members are always available to offer guidance, support and encouragement. There is no pressure to keep up, and nobody is ever left behind!

Training sessions take place in and around Killarney’s beautiful surroundings. This includes pool and open water swims, group cycles on local roads and runs on safe, accessible routes. Training sessions are social, welcoming and designed to be enjoyable as well as effective.

Equally important is our club community. We are a supportive and down to earth group who genuinely enjoy helping one another. From advice on equipment and race preparation to cheering each other on at events or sharing a coffee after a training session, new members quickly feel part of a supportive community.

We are affiliated with Triathlon Ireland since 2015 and are committed to providing a safe, respectful and inclusive environment for all our members.

Is a triathlon for me?

If you’re asking this question, the answer is very likely yes.

You do not need to:

  • be a strong swimmer
  • own an expensive bike
  • have raced before
  • be “fit enough” already

Triathlon is about taking on a personal challenge and that challenge looks different for everyone. For some, it’s completing their first open-water swim. For others, it’s finishing their first triathlon, improving their fitness, or simply enjoying training as part of a group.

Our club is here to help you learn, build your confidence, and enjoy the journey, one session at a time. If you’re curious, a little nervous, or unsure where to begin, that’s exactly where triathlon starts.

You’ll find a warm welcome waiting for you in Killarney Triathlon Club.

Beginner FAQ

No.  Many members start with little or no fitness background and build gradually over time.
No prior experience is required to join our club, we welcome all levels.

What if I can’t swim very well?
That’s absolutely okay. You don’t need to be a strong swimmer to start. Our sessions focus on technique, confidence, and gradual improvement. Not at all. Most of our members were complete beginners when they joined. We support and encourage members leading up to their first triathlon.
